Red Flags for Dyslexia

  Links     According to the International Dyslexia Association there are several developmental behaviors that, if present, may indicate that a child is at risk for having dyslexia.  They are:

  1. History of reading disorder in the family
  2. Delay in language development
  3. Trouble playing rhyming games
  4. Confusing words that sound alike
  5. Word finding difficulty
  6. Difficulty naming alphabet letters
  7. Problems learning letter sounds
  8. Difficulty sounding out words
  9. Slow reading
  10. Poor spelling
  11. Accurate but not automatic reading
     
        For more information on learning to read and how to identify when your child is at risk for having dyslexia, the following book will be most helpful:

"Straight Talk About Reading" by Susan Hall and Louisa Moats.
